Narrated by Sean Kenin, Saskia Maarleveld, Marc Thompson, and Jonathan Davis
Summary:
A collection of 4 short stories set in the Star Wars universe after it was Disneyfied. To be clear, the title and setting are about all these stories have to do with Star Wars. There’s no bearing on the overarching war. About the extent of the connections is a few recognizable species and a few vague references to the First Order and the Resistance.
How the heck did it earn 3 stars if it’s not Star Wars?
I’m taking the stories individually. They’re not bad stories. They’re just not great either.
Additional Comments:
I 100% forget the titles to each story, but the blurbs give enough background to jog the memory. And there’s a convenient list.
First story: Rules of the Game 3/5 A hapless Vaportech salesman wins an all expenses paid trip to Canto Bight and about loses his shirt and his life when unscrupulous beings try to take advantage of him. Sean Kenin’s performance was decent. I don’t recall anything that mesmerized or truly assaulted my ears.
Second story: The Wine in Dreams 4/5 I had a tough time keeping track of who’s who in this one. It wasn’t the narrator’s fault (I don’t think), but everybody was just so darn forgettable. This one kind of dragged, but I enjoyed the ending, which always gives a book a boost in my book.
Third story: 4/5 Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing. Oddly enough, even though I don’t particularly like Marc Thompson (clearly he’s impressed somebody because they hire him for a LOT of Star Wars projects), this might be my favorite of the bunch. He’s very good at distinguishing between characters. It’s his normal narrator voice that sounds pretentious to me. Anyway, the story itself was fun with characters I could root for.
Fourth story: 2/5 The Ride. I love Jonathan Davis, but the story contained so many unimpressive, forgettable, annoying characters that it just sort of dragged on. It was a hair shy of being a documentary about how to play Pizaac (I’m totally spelling that wrong), which I’m pretty sure is like Black Jack. There was nothing wrong with the performance. I just don’t like stories about bumbling idiots who win all the time. It’s a severe waste of my time.
Conclusion:
If you enjoy short stories and love Star Wars, you may enjoy this book. Just be aware it’s going to have zero bearing on anything in Star Wars. The ONLY thing it has in common is the talent, the marketing team, and the setting.

Whether you’re looking for mystery or suspense or fantasy, I’ve got a title for you. Never Again (mystery, suspense) and Reshner’s Royal Ranger (epic sci-fi) just made it there. Note: Filter by US if you’re looking for those codes as many titles are out.
Ones I think may still have US codes: Reshner’s Royal Ranger, Never Again, Innova, The Golden City Captives, The Holy War, Reclaim the Darklands, Eagle Eyes, Treachery Makes it Tense, Ashlynn’s Dreams Shorts, The Dark Side of Science, Ashlynn’s Dreams, Nadia’s Tears, Malia’s Miracles, and Varick’s Quest
Shepherd’s daughter, who goes by Thorn, is the prime suspect in her boss’s murder. It’s up to Peg to keep the troubled teen safe and find the real killer before the shady detective in charge pins the murder on her out of convenience.
Additional Comments:
You could experience these books in any order, but they are a tad more satisfying together.
The performance is decent. You can tell males from females, though not everybody has a distinct voice. Be aware of that if it’s important to you.
The cast is mostly same as the other Pegasus Quincy books. This being the 5th book, you don’t learn many new tidbits about the leading lady, but the lovable dog, Reckless, has slightly more page time.
These are relatively clean mysteries. You may find a curse word here and there, but nothing that would make me give a particular warning about. Same for violence. There’s very close to none, which is a tad strange in a mystery/suspense book. Still, it works with the whole small-town vibe.
The twists and turns in the plot aren’t Earth-shaking, but they keep things lively. They also give a sense of realism to the books. Sometimes, life throws curveballs and elk.
Thorn’s kind of a brat, but she didn’t annoy me as much as the side characters in the 4th book in this series. Ben kinda annoyed me this round, but I think he’s designed that way. It’s part of his charm.
Conclusion:
Peg Quincy won’t ever go down as the world’s smartest, fastest, or hottest detective. Still, she’s honest-ish, hard-working, and a good lady to have on your side in a pinch. Check out all her earlier adventures too.

What if the Nazi scientists succeeded in creating a shapeshifting werecat-soldier? That’s pretty much the crux of this story.
Christopher Goodrich did an excellent job bringing the story to life.
It’s a short story but worth hearing, whether you’re a P.A.W.S. fan or never heard of it. The story can stand on its own. I think it takes place way before the normal series.
Conclusion:
If you like fantasy historical fiction (if there is such a thing), you’ll enjoy this tale. It’s got heart, heroics, and kitty cats.

Jenny (Miri’s best friend from back in the day) has an adventure or misadventure on her own. It’s actually a rather terrifying one if you think about it too hard.
Additional Comments:
The world of P.A.W.S. has many facets. This might be the one story in this rich world that didn’t quite line up. I know part was supposed to be fantasy and part modern New York City, but the fantasy part was interrupted by modern terminology like police and the normal world seemed interrupted by things like a market selling birds. Maybe I’m just crossing the worlds in my head.
The slavery aspect of the book was odd. I guess that’s the part that doesn’t make much sense. If this kid lived in NYC, one would hope she had some street sense. Her loyalty is admirable but kinda dumb.
As I said, P.A.W.S. is a very rich world, but I’m having a difficult time placing it. Much of it is flat-out geared to middle grade readers, but then it’ll mention an adult scene or depict a gory fight. Or, like this case, kind of casually have a child working as a slave cleaning bird cages. It’s neither good or bad, just bizarre.
Narrator is decent.
It’s nice to get a backstory for a very minor character.
Conclusion:
If you’re a P.A.W.S. fan, you won’t want to miss this little extra. If you’re not, I’d suggest starting with the first book to form your own opinion, then delving into this one if you enjoy the first official book.

Miri discovers she’s a shapeshifter. She can take the form of a cat, but only if she has a charm her grandmother bestowed upon her. Little does she know, somebody else wants her charm and that power, and he wants it very badly.
Additional Comments:
Likeable characters. You don’t get to know much about Miri, but that might be on purpose to leave room for growth later.
Plot is predictable but still enjoyable.
Decent narrator.
I thought there’d be a little more fanfare over Miri discovering she’s a shapeshifter.
The middle kind of turns into a Harry Potter-eque thing where Miri tries to figure out her powers at the magical school.
Interesting world with a lot of room for expansion.
Content warnings: A few mild curse words. There’s quite a bit of violence. It’s glossed over but there’s talk of rape, mind control, seduction, really brutal beatings, murder, eating kids, etc.
Conclusion:
If there’d been a tad less violence, I would highly recommend the book to middle schoolers, but as is, I’d say high school or older. Otherwise, the book has a lot of charm and cool world-building.

I 100% just swiped this from my School Success book because it fit the times.
Audiobook coming soon.
Introduction:
Setbacks will happen. Life will do everything in its power to throw you off balance. Expect it. Anticipate it. I won’t say relish it, though some people enjoy the excitement of uncertainty. At the very least, learn from each experience. Keeping your stress levels under control will help you handle setbacks when they come. I’m going to define perseverance as the ability to endure unpleasantness with grace such that you can continue to perform your duties to a high degree. In short, it’s pushing through the bad stuff. Persistence will help you persevere and having low stress will allow you the emotional capacity to persist when necessary.
What’s Stress Got to Do with It?
Have you ever played a video game where you must sneak around without being noticed? There’s usually a bar somewhere on the screen that will measure how much attention you’re gaining. Sometimes, you need to keep still to let the bar decrease to a safe level. If that bar gets too high, you get busted. Picture your stress levels like this. It’s to your advantage to keep stress as low as possible so that when something distinctly stressful happens, you can handle the spike in level.
How do you keep your stress levels low?
This isn’t a weight loss plan. I can’t assign numbers to each type of de-stressor. Though that would be kind of fun, the truth remains that the values I would assign might differ for you based on personal preference. Best I can do is break them down into categories and let you choose your favorites. There’s always a tradeoff between the destressor and the time investment. Find something that relaxes you without adding to the burdens you already bear.
Ways to Unwind:
Exercise: Whether we’re talking organized sports or personal initiative, exercising takes a lot of time. If you like moving, this would be an appealing way to forget your troubles. I could expound on the chemical response your body has to physical activity, but it’s not my area of expertise, so the information would be no deeper than the nearest Google page. What I can say is that this one isn’t for everybody. Exercise tends to be more of a chore for me. Sure, it feels great when it’s over, but I don’t enjoy the process of getting disgustingly sweaty.
Music: Time varies, but even though each song isn’t terribly long, it’s easy to get lost in a playlist. There’s a song for everything, but not every song is conducive to relaxing or dealing with stress. Music can evoke emotions, so be careful about what you choose when trying to unwind. Filling your head with something that will get you pumped up and ready to conquer the world may or may not be the right choice for you. Same for slow and sad. Maybe mellow tunes can ground you. Classic rock might work too.
Find something that makes you feel good without being a bad influence. Would you be embarrassed to play the song in front of your whole family from your grandmother down to a little baby cousin? If it’s not suitable for small children or other innocent ears, it’s probably not great for relaxing and destressing you.
Movies and TV Shows: Unless you have iron willpower, this one can be time-consuming, expensive, or both. Assuming you can legally access movies, this may be a way to forget your troubles by becoming immersed in a fictional character’s woes. Television shows tend to be shorter, either a half-hour, forty-two minutes, or an hour. With Netflix and Amazon and other studios that have streaming services running their own programs, that timing might differ, but TV shows are usually more manageable than movies.
Once again, your tastes might differ, but I think certain genres are better suited to relaxing. Mindless action and light comedy fit the bill better than dark, twisty psychological thrillers or horror shows. When trying to temporarily leave this world for a fictional one, it’s best if you don’t have to invest too much brainpower in figuring things out.
Books and Audiobooks: A cheaper way to experience stories involves books and audiobooks. Both have their place. Audiobooks are easier because somebody’s reading to you. This frees you to do something else like build Legos, take a walk, get some chores done, or work on a puzzle. They tend to be more expensive since production costs for that medium are higher. However, most libraries have some audiobooks on CD or available as an online resource with your library subscription. The choices might be limited, but it’s a great place to start.
With libraries and community book sales, physical books are cheap. Choices may be limited depending on the budget of your local library. Also, if you have a kindle and keep to the right Facebook groups, you can probably pick up a lot of free books. Same is true for audiobooks. Audible gives authors and narrators codes to promote their books and generate reviews. If you’re willing to review stories, you can have an endless supply of them.
The same general principles apply to books and audiobooks as with movies. Choose something lighter on the scale. There’s a time for dark and twisty tales, but lighthearted and amusing works better for forgetting the problems that plague you.
Friends: Be cautious with this one. Friends can often cause as much stress as they’re capable of relieving. I can’t tell you how to make friends, but I will encourage you to keep track of your own mental and emotional health when it comes to dealing with friends. This does not mean you abandon people just because they have heavy stuff going on in their lives, but if you come across someone whose negativity permeates the atmosphere, you might want to keep your distance. You want to surround yourself with a small group of core people who will be there for you when you need a distraction, advice, or a sympathetic ear. Commiserating with somebody who understands exactly what you’re dealing with can go a long way in keeping you sane.
Cleaning: Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Cleaning and organizing can be excellent ways to handle stress. It’s productive, necessary, and potentially cathartic (emotionally releasing). It allows you to bring order to a kind of chaos you have full control over. A large part of the power behind most stressors is a lack of control over a situation. Uncertainty. Cleaning narrows the focus of the world temporarily by pitting you and your cleaning supplies against dirt and dust, something you can see and feel.
Craft, Cook, or Create: Paints, pencils, puzzles, and pans are excellent tools for relaxing. Physical puzzles are nice because, like cleaning, they illustrate order coming out of chaos. For those with the skill, painting and drawing can be immensely relaxing. Cooking or baking can also fulfill the need to create something from nothing. The key here is to spend time doing something you enjoy that has a tangible result you can be proud of.
Enjoying Nature: There may be some crossover here between enjoying nature and exercising. Cost for this one tends to be low, but that depends heavily on accessibility. Even if you live in a city, there’s usually a nearby park you can visit. You might have to work at it a little. Standing outside in the sunshine can help, but this method works best if you can immerse yourself in nature. Walking around a park or sitting by a lake or pond would be best. If you can escape to the mountains or go camping, that would certainly align with the idea of enjoying nature, but those types of trips have higher costs and take way more planning and coordination. I’m referring to more of a quick jolt of nature.
How to Handle New Stress:
The previous section dealt more with ways to lower general, chronic life stress. It’s about building enough margin into your life so you can purposefully and effectively deal with the other stresses that pop up. In the heat of the moment, you won’t have time to dig out a how-to book and review steps. You’ll just have to react.
Assess the Situation: What you should do depends largely on what you’re facing. In most cases, seeking more information’s a good first step. Questions that may help illuminate the situation:
Who’s affected by the situation?
How directly are you impacted by the incident?
Is the situation a one-time thing or a long-term, pervasive problem?
Does the crisis revolve around you or are you just along for the ride?
If everything went right, what’s the best-case scenario? If everything went wrong, what’s the worst-case scenario? These two questions are good for getting a big picture perspective of what’s going on.
What can you do to make the situation better?
Form a Plan of Action: The ugly truth may be that you have very little control over the source of the stress. But there’s always something you can do. It might be as simple as taking better care of yourself or younger siblings so your folks can put their time and energy into dealing with the situation. Kindness can be spontaneous, but often, it must be purposeful.
If you’re the source … try to determine if there’s a fix. Is the problem related to health or behavior or both? If you’re sick, your main job should be getting better. School can wait. Do the best you can to keep up, but if it’s having a negative impact on your health, step back. If the source needs medical or psychological attention, then seek it.
If you’re not the source … try to determine if there’s a fix. Do you wield any influence over the situation? School’s important, but it’s only one aspect of your life. Family matters a great deal too.
Identify a perfect solution (whether it’s feasible or not): What would fix the problem? More money? A cure? An event never happening? No matter how ridiculous the solution may seem, knowing it can give you some peace of mind.
Implement a small solution: You may not be able to completely fix the problem, but you can likely make it better. Identify the key players and decide how to make their lives better. The small solution might be nothing more than your presence, a hand-written note, a phone call, or a batch of homemade cookies. Don’t try to invent a new side to yourself for the situation. Work with your strengths and within your means.
Evaluate the Results: Face every situation like it was the scientific method. After you’ve identified the problem, you’ve naturally hypothesized about the source and a possible fix. Your experiment happens when you try your solution on the problem. The next logical step involves evaluating the results. Did your solution help? From there, you make a new decision about how to approach the problem, develop a new possible solution, and implement it. You might be in this phase for a while until you can draw a definitive conclusion about your plan of action.
You’re Not Alone:
Family, friends, counselors, doctors, teachers, and preachers can help. Empathy lets one understand and relate to another without having to go through the exact same ordeal. On the flip side, very few things are truly unique. No matter what you’re dealing with, somebody somewhere has been there and knows the best way to heal.
The biggest initial hurdle will likely be asking for help. Decide who you can confide in. Sharing your heart isn’t going to be easy, but it might be worth it. Understand that many adults are legally bound to take the matter to higher authorities under certain circumstances. That’s not meant to scare you. If you need help getting out of a bad situation, most adults will jump at the chance to support you.
Conclusion: Whether your problems only affect you or touch many lives, they’re likely to affect your ability to do the school thing well. Managing everyday stress will let you have the emotional energy to deal with larger issues that surface. Having a plan of action in place before a crisis pops up can help ease you through the tough stuff. Finally, know the people resources that exist around you. The courage to open up has to come from you, but there are usually a lot of people rooting for you

As an old lady, Alison tells her love story to her grandchildren.
Additional Comments:
Predictable but decent. I enjoyed the end twist.
The story moved pretty slowly. Not one bit of action happened until about the last hour of the audiobook.
Since it’s written as if Alison is telling the story, there’s quite a bit of breaking the 4th wall as she directly addresses her granddaughters. Most of the side comments were amusing, but it kind of dragged out a tedious tale.
I’ll be the first to admit romance isn’t my first genre choice. Guess I’m just used to there being more danger than her cousin running off with the first handsome fellow to look her way.
It’s got a lot of reviews, so there’s certainly a market for this sort of thing.
Content warning: A few awkward scenes where one or the other character walks in on the other naked.
I liked the narrator’s accent.
Conclusion:
Relatively clean romance. If you can get around the proper lady this and proper lady that stuff, go for it.

Disclaimer: Despite being a high school teacher, I’m not the target audience for this book. For adults, that would fall more under the purview of the guidance department.
Summary:
The title covers the premise pretty well, which is typical for a nonfiction title.
Additional Comments:
One could probably learn just as much about getting into Harvard reading the blog post the author references several times.
The narrator delivers the book well.
The book includes a few good points like the fact that Harvard and other Ivy League schools aren’t looking for straight A’s and dabbling at an instrument, they often look for passion. If you love playing your instrument so much that you start composing pieces by the time you’re fourteen, then you’ll successfully pique their interest. That said, they also love a good sob story or a triumph over hardship story. That kind of stuff you can’t make up, but some people naturally have a better “in” than others.
The author also mentions there are still those that can get in due to family connections. She kind of glosses over the point, which is fine as that’s not really her target audience either. Those people don’t need a primer on getting in the door.
I liked her thoughts on thinking nontraditionally. She had a different term for it, something from Elon Musk. Modular thinking? Something like that. Schools in general are trying to get students to think for themselves.
Conclusion:
Not quite sure there’s much in here that couldn’t be gleaned from a few solid google searches, but that could be said for many nonfiction titles. It’s sometimes nice to have all that information tucked away in one place. Audiobooks are a convenient way of taking in information. I can sort of see the audiobook being attractive to a certain set of high school students.
*I received a free copy from the author or narrator. I’ve chosen to review. These are my honest thoughts.

Although the book claims to be about Michael Stone, he’s only one cog in the machine of good guys and bad guys. The premise is terrifyingly realistic. Traitors have helped Isis slip terrorist sleepers into the United States and Europe through their refugee programs.
Additional Comments:
I was in the middle of the book when the world had a pandemic meltdown. It’s not exactly a light-hearted read, but it is good.
John Tanner does a decent job bringing the story to life. I always listen at 2 or 2.5 x speed, so I didn’t have any problems with the diction or flow. It’s always interesting when people complain about speed. Most audio apps have given people the ability to change things like that.
The end is pretty open. They’re definitely angling for sequels.
There are a lot of sections and characters that come and go. You don’t really get a chance to get attached to any of them. Michael is one of the central characters, but he’s less central than I like for a series like this (billed as being all about him).
It’s pretty standard fare as far as thrillers go. If you like some of David Baldacci’s spy thrillers, you might like this. Baldacci’s better at character development, but Michael Stone fits the bill for standard spy guy. They even poked fun at this in describing him.
While the book offers a fair look at a scenario like this, I can see it skirts very close to that line. People act irrationally when it comes to terrorist acts. Whether it wants to or not, the book points out some rather large gaping holes in national security when it comes to letting in a bunch of refugees. Balancing humanitarian efforts and security is a headache I’m glad not to claim.
Content Warnings: Some violence; some language; no adult scenes
Conclusion:
If you can get past the horrible acts of terrorism that have to be described in order to have a book like this, you’ll probably like it.

Jem’s worried about her Earth people getting evil kittens. She’s also struggling to fit in with the other cool cats in the afterlife.
Additional Comments:
If you enjoyed the first book, you’ll probably like this one as well.
I think my favorite new part was flying with the ravens. It does make one wonder though, why the cats of the afterlife don’t interact more with other critters.
Talking cats is kind of a special brand of weird that some people love and others could take or leave.
Narration was handled well. The voices were distinct. I didn’t have any issues with weird pauses because I listened at 2.1 x speed.
Jem’s journey to navigate the new social scene involve several adventures and misadventures.
Kinda goes without saying, this book is 100% kid-safe.
I don’t really like some of the characters (i.e. Alistair) because they’re arrogant jerks, but I suppose every social scene has to have at least one popular being worth disliking.
Plot meandered a bit for me but that’s probably got more to do with this not being a genre I typically explore than anything. I’m used to thrillers and murder mysteries. I think the most dangerous thing Jem faced was a dog messing with her head.
Conclusion:
So, cat fantasy stories. Love ’em? Snap up this book. Don’t love ’em? Check the sample and see if you like it. If you do, give it a go anyway. It’s a good time to expand reading horizons. Besides, it gets boring if you only read the same type of story every time.
