Choices Stories Review: 4.5/5 Stars Royal Heir Book 3

got the combo pic from a pintrest board https://www.pinterest.com/pin/587719820118179930/

For those who care… I chose princess #3 if counting left to right. So friggin’ cute.

Summary:

I honestly thought this one was the end of the royal saga. It’s a fun tale that rolls right off the events of the previous book. It ends on a semi-cliffhanger in that they opened it for a book 4, but I still feel there’s enough closure to make this one enjoyable.

Additional Comments:

  • Recap: The original Royal Romance series follows the MC, who you have a little control over in terms of hair style, face, and name. I went with Emma Easterwood. The MC is a waitress in New York who meets a prince on his bachelor party. That sets off an unlikely but fun series of events wherein this waitress ends up in a selection style competition to win the hand of said fair prince.
  • Tie-ins to other Choices tales: Concordia, the fictional kingdom set somewhere in Europe, has its history tied to some of the earliest Choices stories I read (though probably not their absolute first). I started with The Crown and the Flame. Set somewhere in between is The Royal Masquerade. The Crown and the Flame is a TV show in some of the more modern set Choices tales like The Freshman.
  • Back to Recap: So Royal Romance took 3 books, so I guess I expected this one to be the end of the series. The Royal Heir is a sequel series. It picks up after you marry somebody important in the Concordian government. As a traditionalist, I went and had Emma marry the prince, but you do have a few more options.
  • RH 1: has the MC and her love interest trying to have a kid and dealing with the press. RH 2: the kid has arrived and she’s adorable. The default name is Lilly. I liked it enough to settle on Lillian. The first major hurdle is to keep the kid from any disastrous engagements to bratty royals from a neighboring kingdom. RH 3: has a threat of a different sort. One of your own cabinet members makes a blatant bid for power and that involves taking your kid away.
  • The political intrigue here has enough plausibility to be believable.
  • I always get sucked into the silly upgrade the room superfluous buys. Avoid that if you can. But I will say, the few diamond scenes from the baby’s point of view were absolutely hilarious. Her names for the people involved are awesome: Stinky Bad Man, Flower Lady, Haha Man, etc. Also, just like Disney, these people have a thing for making babies and puppies so dang cute.

Conclusion:

The main quest is to preserve your family, which is kinda cool. A new threat arises, so the danger isn’t past, but this book covers a span of a few years, so you had a few years of peaceful kingdom.

Choices Stories Review 4.45/5 Stars With Every Heartbeat

*Warning: this one’s labeled a tragedy

Summary:

It’s like watching a car wreck. You sort of suspect what happen but still watch for the details.

Additional Comments:

  • I actually cried at the end.
  • You 100% know what’s going to happen. It’s a framed story. The MC is sitting there at her graduation watching a video prepped by her boyfriend.
  • It’s still a very sweet story.
  • I liked the tie-ins to Edenbrook hospital. Ethan Ramsey and Harper Emery get cameos.
  • Cancer seems to have cropped up a lot lately in stories, people I know of, etc. Crazy devastating disease. Even the treatment of it is difficult for families to bear.
  • I did most of the diamond choices that involved being nice to people. I think this was one rare book where they didn’t have a pet for you to adopt. Good. I’m such a sucker for the cute fluffies.

Conclusion:

Sad but satisfying story.

Choices Stories Review 4/5 Stars Sunkissed

pic from fandom; promo pic for the story

Summary:

Family is complicated. But also, family sticks together.

Additional Comments:

  • Pretty sure I named my character Joy.
  • The characters include the hot lifeguard, the MC’s mother, the MC’s somewhat bratty little sister, and the MC’s dead father.
  • Many of the diamond opportunities involve upgrading the beach house and doing nice things for your mom or sister. The father’s gone but very much present in various notes and such.
  • I think the other love interests are the local artist and the scientist. I went with the surfer type.
  • The story’s not exactly the most danger-filled, epic adventures, but there is always a sense of danger navigating the relationships between Mom and Alexis (the sister).

Conclusion:

Not their best story. Not their worst story. Sort of small town meets family drama.

Choices Stories Review 4.5/5 Stars: Blades of Light and Shadows

Summary:

You play as a young orphan from Riverbend, an idyllic little village. You and your brother dream of adventures, until one comes calling. Soon into the quest, your brother disappears into the Shadow Realm. From that point on, your quest is very personal.

Side discussion about diamonds: Are they worth it?

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: If you can afford it, it’s best to spend $107-ish. It’s $100 + taxes) for 1500 diamonds. Throughout the games, there are certain choices you can only make if you have the diamonds. Some games, the diamonds are more about special scenes. Others, like this one, you will need it for max experience and special items and so forth.

It’s possible to play the games without diamonds. Heck, most of the stories have youtube videos. Those are great if you want to see an alternate special scene (like with a different character because there will be different lines of dialogue). I think PB lets those stay up (instead of fighting them) because it draws people into the stories as a whole, which will get people to spend money eventually.

Additional Comments:

  • Plot 4/5: The beginning meanders. The end is amazing. In between, they did everything in their power to make sure you have lots of sidequests to spend diamonds on. Since that’s basically how they make money to pay people to keep writing and animating such stories, it’s fine. The story itself is fairly standard fantasy fare. I think that’s sort of the schtick.
  • Side Characters 4/5: Mal’s kind of obnoxious. Knowing that’s part of his charm doesn’t quite cover every irritation. The quest makes him a hero, even if he does still have sticky fingers. Nia’s sweet. I think part of your journey is corrupting the priestess’s do-gooderness. Imatura’s tough at the beginning and tough at the end. Tyril’s kind of the emo, tormented soul of the party. The Nesper’s obsessed with snacks. He’s also adorable.
  • End 4.5/5: I’m not sure if you needed to buy enough lore and legendary weapons to get the scene at the end, but it had the exact feel of the Elementalists’s first book. They’re definitely angling for a sequel, though to be honest, it probably depends how many people spend diamond along the way. Pretty sure they only continue the series that are popular.
  • Replay value (5/5) is fairly high. You can adventure as either a man or a woman. You can romance one of 4 companions. It’s a tad annoying that if you switch genders, the special adventuring outfit isn’t already paid for (you have to buy it again even if you bought it for your first character. Cheap shot, PB, but I will admit both the female and male special outfits are stellar).
  • One of the best Pixelberry stories I’ve finished of late, though it’s probably a hairsbreadth behind The Royal Heir Book 2 in overall feels.

Conclusion:

Well-worth playing and replaying if you love fantasy.

Choices Stories Review 3.5/5 Stars Distant Shores

One of the general promo pics they put out as a teaser for the story.

Summary:

You’re auditioning for a role in a pirate movie when you step through a time rift directly into the past to a life of adventure on the high seas.

Additional Comments:

  • I appreciate what they tried to do with the scifi angle, but honestly, it probably would have been better as a true set-in-the-time period piece.
  • Characters are interesting. You’re not meant to like Robert, but of the characters Choices has put out, he has a particularly punch-able attitude and face. I really liked Charlie. Edward was okay. He’s kinda a little too full of himself for comfort. Side characters are just okay. Kendrick’s annoying. The Twins are fun. Jones is typical hard-boiled softee when it comes to Ginny. Samuel kind of makes no sense. Henry’s typical pirate. Oliver’s just kind of their “shoot. We need another love interest option” add-on.
  • The extra scene’s honestly not worth collecting the cabin pieces, though I probably would have collected most of the things anyway. I think the only extra scene that kinda seemed worthy was the Elementalists Book 1. As usual, I’m a sucker for pets and weapons.
  • Not my favorites Choices story. Not my least favorite (I don’t think … think that goes to The Haunting of Braidwood Manor).
  • End kind of disappointed. Like the end of their other scifi adventure (Across the Stars), it just sort of fizzled out, like they hit their quota of chs and decided to put more effort into their VIP stories instead. I get it, they gotta make money, but still wish it was a stronger ending.

Conclusion:

Worth checking out, but in my opinion, not their finest piece.

Choices Stories Review 4/5 Stars: Desire and Decorum Book 3

Summary:

You’re finally engaged to the right guy (or gal if you so choose). I’m kind of a traditionalist when it comes to these things, so I chose to go with Mr. Sinclaire. You can import choices from books 1 and 2 or go with default choices. However, if you spent diamonds in the first few books, you probably should import because then you will have the same pets and unlocked knowledge from before.

Additional Comments:

  • For about 4/5 of the book, your brother Viscount Harry is pissed off at you. Throughout the 20 chapters you can be nice to him or not so nice. I chose the high road, of course.
  • Most of this story revolves around you prepping for your wedding. Like the other wedding story (Save the Date), you can seriously upgrade the skins for the wedding if you want. I’m kind of a cheapskate so I went with the basic options for cake, etc. I broke down and bought Gus (my dog) the tux because it was adorable. Every special you unlock comes with a short scene at the wedding.
  • Dresses are a major thing you can buy in this story.
  • I was a sucker for the sweet scenes with the little boy. I won’t talk about him much to avoid spoilers.
  • Oh, I think I bought my friends their wedding gifts because it’s a right decent thing to do.
  • Your wedding to your love interest gets a tad more exciting than these things ought to, but that’s what makes these stories fun.
  • The last chapter is an epilogue. I think they left enough space open to write another book, but they tend to stick with trilogies for most of their series.

Side note: Choices stories are great, but you have to pick and chose where you spend money carefully.

Conclusion:

The Desire and Decorum series is Choices’s nod to regency romance. Though it’s not my go-to genre, I enjoyed these three tales. This one provides enough mystery and intrigue to keep the plot flowing. If I had to put them in order of most favorite to least, I guess it would go as I view most trilogies: 3, 1, 2. Book 3 wraps things up the most. 1 has some closure but they’re always angling for a sequel. 2 usually ends dark and twisty. Worth checking out.

4/5 Stars: The Crown and the Flame Series

Genre: Fantasy

Summary:

You play the part of Kenna, exiled queen of Stormholt. Occasionally, you get to play as Dominic, Kenna’s friend.

Additional Comments:

  • This is the first Choices series I ever completed.
  • Pretty sure I bought most of the diamond options, so replay will be fun.
  • I’m far behind on newer series so I haven’t gotten around to a replay, but it was a great story.
  • I enjoyed the twists they managed to insert in the plotline.
  • There are 3 books in the series. You can choose amongst several love interests, but that doesn’t affect the storyline much.
  • Queen Kenna’s awesome. She’s everything a YA heroine should be: bold, brave, sassy, and willing to fight for her people.
  • I can’t remember which of the 3 stories I enjoyed the most. Probably the last one because it has the most closure.
  • Most of the diamond choices were to get weapons and perks while fighting the bad guys. I don’t think the plot would have changed significantly if you didn’t spend money on it. But the scenes would have been rougher for the heroes.

Conclusion:

Choices is about to release a new fantasy story, which I’m excited for. This is a solid fantasy series. I might replay it someday.

Audiobook Crave is no longer a thing. I have also moved to have 11 of my books go wide…so I can put it on more sites. When that happens, codes for these books won’t work.

Choices Stories: 5/5 Stars The Royal Masquerade

picture from google…I think it’s a general promo pic they prepped

Genre: Renaissance era romance.

Summary:

You’re a lowly scribe attached to a prominent house that’s about to become noble. Then all heck breaks loose. The queen is murdered and the kingdom is plunged into a courtly battle royale of sorts. The 5 noble houses compete for the favor of the other houses to see who will become the new king or queen.

Additional Comments:

  • Twists 5/5: I can usually predict stories. And this one was no different for the most part, but they did manage to slip in a few very nice twists.
  • There’s decent replay value in that you can court the king-regent or the Crown shield. I re-named them Dean and Caden, respectively. I think a different spelling of Caden might be the default.
  • I chose to go with fiery red hair and the Rosario name.
  • Characters stood out in being memorable. Even the purposefully annoying or villainous ones had their charms. Won’t say too much so I don’t spoil anything. Emery was truly annoying, but Percy came across as adorable. Annalisa might be my favorite.
  • The writers packed in a lot of danger and court intrigue.
  • Ending: Slightly bittersweet, but also just like a fairy tale.
  • I may play again to see what it’s like romancing the Crown shield. It probably changes some of the dialogue.
  • It takes quite a good story for me to consider replaying because I don’t think they give you as many diamonds on replay.
  • The danger’s pretty real sometimes. They don’t pull punches in several chapters.

Conclusion:

If you’re in need of a good distraction, this book has a lot to offer. Magic, mystery, court gossip, court intrigue. Highly recommended. (And I don’t even like most romance books.)

Choices Stories Review: 4/5 Stars Desire and Decorum 1 and 2

Genre: Regency Romance

Summary:

I named my character Cora. It seemed to fit the innocent young woman who finds out she’s the daughter of a nobleman whose son died in a tragic accident.

Additional Comments:

  • Surprisingly fun, and I’m not even a fan of the genre. Generally, I prefer more action and adventure.
  • There are four romantic interests, but I chose to have Cora go with the one on the cover, Mr. Sinclair. I like the variety they chose. There’s a stableboy, a friend, a neighbor, and a prince.
  • In the first book, you’re working hard to prove yourself worthy of being your father’s heir.
  • The villain is truly punchable, which is great.
  • I didn’t do many of the diamond options that were just extra scenes. I do think I had the MC pick up a sword and fight the highwaymen.
  • In the second book, you’re on a clock to get married. It’s also part mystery. The diamond choices this round involve collecting certain pieces of evidence to convince the queen that your intended is a scoundrel.

Conclusion:

As far as I know, this is the only entry they have in Regency Romance. There are 3 books in the series, but I’ve not gotten to check out book 3 yet.

Choices Stories Review: 4/5 Ride-or-Die

pretty art for the story as usual

Genre: Contemporary Bad Boy Romance

Summary:

A good girl (daughter of a cop) falls for the bad boy who rides motorcycles and runs with a rough crowd but is essentially good at heart.

Additional Comments:

  • There is good closure but enough room to expand.
  • The diamond choices are usually about getting better grades than your rival. The MC tries to be the good girl while falling for the handsome bad boy.
  • The end is surprisingly action-filled.
  • The fast cars/ street racing aspect is pretty cool.
  • Not their best or worst story. Worthy of a sequel, but I’m not sure if it’s a big money maker for the company. There wasn’t a scheme that keeps you buying diamond options like the ones where you need a certain number of followers.

Conclusion:

I’m not sure if they’ll continue the series, but if they do, I will probably check out the sequel.
